New Books!

So, Santa brought me lots of wonderful things!! From Chanel lipstick to Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia and of course, Grey’s Anatomy! But above all, Santa brought me books via the wonderful Mr. Books&Reviews! I don’t know where to start or when, but there is some great, high-quality reading here:

Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina (Film tie-in edition)

I wanted to read the novel before watching the film and when I found this Penguin tie-in edition, I fell in love with it immediately and he noticed, and I noticed he had noticed.

True Tales of American Life by Paul Auster

I saw this collection of short stories several months ago and even stopped to read one (only two pages!) and it was great. I have never read any Auster, but I know I have to: it feels as the type of writer I’d adore.

A Room of One’s Own and Three Guineas by Virginia Woolf.

I am not Woolf’s biggest fan, but I’ve only read her fiction. Lately, I’ve been craving some non-fiction and since this is such a landmark in feminist and modern literature, I decided to read it as soon as possible.

The Philosophy Book

I am a huge fan of philosophy, I even considered studying it before I realised my thing was English literature. However, I still read as much theories as I can: they can change the way you see things and improve your lifestyle.

Patricia Cornwell’s The Scarpetta Collection Volume 1

I was a little bit embarrassed I had never read anything by Cornwell, she is a great favourite among crime fiction readers. This volume contains Postmortem and Body of Evidence, the two first novels, published in the 1990’s, starring Kay Scarpetta who I’m sure I’ll love.

My amazing mom and dad also bought me the FRIENDS Blu-ray edition so, if I’m absent don’t panic and don’t worry, I’ll be enjoying all these gifts. I can’t wait to start reading, watching the TV shows and movies! I’m very thankful for everything, but above all, for having people around me who care so much and honour me with so many gifts.

What did Santa bring you?

Good gifts! I saw the DK Philosophy book in a shop the other day and thought it looked really good. Is the Auster book written by him? I have this on my list somewhere, too, and think it is only edited by him but that it is a collection of short stories by others. Or am I wrong?

Ooooh you’r right, Rikki: “edited and introduced by Paul Auster”, but they are not his. This is great! An opportunity to discover new authors via Auster (although I still fail at reading his works).
